Angelina Jolie takes on Cambodian genocide with the ‘First They Killed My Father’ trailer

After covering Bosnian War POWs with In the Land of Blood and Honey and WWII POWs with Unbroken, Angelina Jolie is keeping is rosy as ever with First They Killed My Father. Based on the memoir of the same name by Loung Ung, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jolie, the film reflects on the genocide of Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge regime. Young Sareum Srey Moch stars as Loung, who was taken from her Phnom Penh home at five to be trained as a child soldier. Netflix is putting out the movie as a spiritual successor to Beasts of No Nation, finally making horrific tales of gun-toting kids something you can binge watch over a lazy, harrowing Sunday.

First They Killed My Father hits the streaming service September 15.
