Deadwood finally fucking got the goddamn green light

Pour a drink, crack open a can of peaches, and let out a celebratory string of vulgar expletives, because the long-promised Deadwood movie is finally a go. Though the production has long been rumored since the series’ 2006 cancelation—a fall 2018 shoot was already suspected late last year—HBO has never actually given the film an official green light. That changed today, though, with network chief Casey Bloys confirming an October production start with an eye on a spring 2019 release. Creator David Milch is writing, and TV vet Daniel Minahan will make this his fifth Deadwood directing job. It’s said HBO is now “in the process of lining up schedules for castmembers,” hopefully meaning this won’t end up a disjointed, Arrested Development season four situation. Maybe it’s old fashioned, but the actors really should be in the same room with Ian McShane when he belligerently calls them cocksuckers.
