Dwayne Johnson to go prestige drama for a biopic on fighter Mark Kerr

For all his ever-rising number of action films, family adventures, comedies, and whatever Tooth Fairy was trying to be, Dwayne Johnson has yet to really commit to a full-on drama. But that’s apparently about to change.

According to Variety, Johnson just announced that he’ll star in a serious biopic about MMA fighter and two-time UFC heavyweight champ Mark “The Smashing Machine” Kerr. As documented in the HBO documentary The Smashing Machine, Kerr was widely considered one of if not the best fighter of his era. Unfortunately, he also got addicted to opiates, and after the turn of the century, his era ended and it was not a great career from there out (he literally knocked himself out at one point). So you can imagine where the sad, dramatic beats will fit in.

“Like all of us, and like a lot of these fighters, [Kerr] battled these demons — these demons of addiction, these demons of mental health, these demons of getting out and the pressure of fighting in front of 50,000 people and what that does to somebody,” Johnson said of the role. “Here’s a guy who has gone through it all, hit rock bottom. But the best part about Mark Kerr is that, like all of us in this room and all these fighters—these warriors—is that every day, we get up and we want to do a little bit better tomorrow than we did today “

Man, does The Rock have us pegged entirely wrong or what?

Please help these sad nobodies and:
