Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones reveal their latest corny biopic with The Aeronauts trailer

You asked for more original stories and Hollywood has, at last, delivered—with this completely ridiculous-looking adventure biopic about meteorology and gas balloons.

Titled The Aeronauts to trick you into thinking it’s something cooler, the film stars Eddie Redmayne as James Glaisher, the pioneering British meteorologist and balloonist who in 1862 set the record for traveling to the highest altitude then recorded. He accomplished that feat with his fellow aeronaut chum Henry Tracey Coxwell, but you won’t find that guy on the poster for this thing. His history has been overwritten by the completely fictional Amelia Wren, a Felicity Jones character there seemingly just for an unceremonious Theory of Everything reunion. Because who didn’t want to see them back together, repeatedly falling out of a floating basket?

Historical inaccuracies notwithstanding, this thing sure does look like some hoary trash in this, its first trailer. We’ll see if these scrappy balloon-lovers can pull it together when The Aeronauts hits theaters December 6 (and Amazon Prime December 20).
