Edgar Wright Is Back, and He Brought His iPod, with the ‘Baby Driver’ Trailer

Four years since giving us The World’s End, cult-adored writer-director Edgar Wright has finally given us something to drown out the constant nagging in our ears that Ant-Man could have been even better than it was. It’s Baby Driver, Wright’s new action-comedy that just premiered at SXSW and now has a couple very different new trailers.

The film sees Divergent co-star and World of Warcraft NPC name Ansel Elgort in the lead as Baby, a quiet getaway driver for gangster Kevin Spacey’s goons. He seems to basically be Drive‘s Driver had Ryan Gosling been pushed a hair further up the autism spectrum. Baby was in a car accident as a kid, and as Spacey explains, “Still has a hum in the drum; plays music to drown it out”—meaning most of the film is soundtracked to Baby’s ever-present iPod. Wright has, like James Gunn with Guardians of the Galaxy, decided to make his prominent soundtrack diegetic by way of some headphones and dated electronics. Also like Guardians, it looks like a hell of a good time buoyed by a supporting cast of largely more-prominent stars having a blast out there. Spacey co-stars alongside Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Jon Bernthal, and Lily James.

Above is Baby Driver‘s international trailer, and below its Bud Light variant—the far less flavorful domestic counterpart. Though, to be fair, it gets a lot of credit for pulling off an Austin Powers reference in 2017.
