Going where The Simpsons and Frasier episodes have gone before, Fox Searchlight is re-imagining Sleeping with the Enemy. According to Deadline, the studio has set Candyman remake re-imaginer Nia DaCosta to write and direct a new take on the modestly-iconic, Joseph Ruben-directed psychological thriller.
The 1991 original saw Julia Roberts as a wife who fakes her own death and skips town to escape her abusive, controlling husband. Anyone who’s seen a Lifetime movie—or even the prior year’s Kindergarten Cop—will now get where the story heads, so it could prove interesting to see how DaCosta can do something fresh and modern with the material. Maybe now the wife hides as a furry?
