Friday the 13th is getting rebooted again, thanks to Halloween

Well, that didn’t take long. With last weekend’s Halloween proving a critical and commercial success, work has already started on relaunching another already-late-’00s-rebooted horror franchise: Friday the 13th. It producers Vertigo Entertainment and LeBron James’s SpringHill Entertainment are reportedly in talks to head up the new remake—though some legal hurdles may first have to be cleared.

While original Friday the 13th writer Victor Miller just last month won a case to regain the rights to his screenplay, there’s still some question of appeal—and, more decisively, just who holds the rights to Jason Vorhees. Jason was in the original, but he only became the antagonist in Part II, and then only donned his iconic hockey mask for Part III, so it’s probably complicated. Hopefully they can figure it out before the next Nightmare on Elm Street we’re assumedly doing.
