Halloween topped your pre-pre-Halloween box office

Well, it’s certain now: Halloween (2018) will definitely not be the final chapter sequel Halloween (1978) deserved. Over the weekend, the quite entertaining retroactive sequel nearly set a record for October openings. With an estimated $77.5 million weekend, Halloween‘s numbers fell just behind another of this month’s big franchise entries—the fairly awful Venom. That film dropped to third this weekend, falling behind A Star Is Born. Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween took fourth and, rounding out the top five, the lovely First Man reiterated that we can’t have anything nice.
