Teaming up Michael Peña and Lizzy Caplan as husband and wife for an alien invasion, Extinction stars with a strong setup for a sci-fi comedy. Here’s the rub, though: it’s not a comedy at all. This thing could hardly be more dire. And like the orphaned (and pretty bad) Cloverfield Paradox, Extinction is a shelved big-studio sci-fi-horror hand-me-down picked up by Netflix to sate their endless hunger for any content at all.
Peña stars as a man haunted by visions of a violent alien invasion. His wife and boss (Luke Cage‘s Mike Colter) think he must be going crazy, but of course that’s not the case. Turns out, he’s just one of those guys who talks through the whole movie because he’s already seen it and worries you missed an obvious plot point.
We’ll see whether this dude ever finally shuts up with the spoilers when Extinction begins streaming July 27.
