Ruh-roh, Scoob! isn’t looking so great in its first teaser

The teenage gang that solves spooky mysteries about fake hauntings is back for… an origin story-cum-alien invasion scenario? Apparently.

Have a look with the trailer for Scoob!, the film that painfully updates Scooby-Doo with a more modern take on the same lazy humor of the original. Now Scooby is weirdly verbose, Daphne wastes little time in bringing up her father’s alcoholism, and, unfortunately, the ever-enjoyable Will Forte is woefully miscast as Shaggy. Filling out the rest of the needlessly celebrity-packed cast, Zac Efron voices Fred, Amanda Seyfried voices Daphne, Gina Rodriguez is Velma, Mark Wahlberg plays Blue Falcon alongside Ken Jeong’s Dynomutt, Tracy Morgan voices Captain Caveman, and Jason Isaacs is Dick Dastardly. Frank Welker—the only actual voice actor here—returns to the role of the dog.

Scoob! will lift up its mask to reveal the real culprit in this debacle, Old Man Studio Executive, when it hits theaters next May.
