Shia LaBeouf goes meta with the Honey Boy trailer

As his follow-up to publicly watching all the films he’s ever been in, Shia LaBeouf has somehow outdone himself in terms of navel-gazing. Have a look with the trailer for Honey Boy, a film that just might be autobiographical.

Youngster Noah Jupe and Lucas Hedges each play Otis, an actor who begins his Hollywood career in goofy comedies before ascending to explosion-filled blockbuster action and drunken arrests (see where this is going?). LaBeouf wrote the script and plays Otis’s likewise drunken father and manager, who’s been leeching off his son’s accomplishments. And as off-putting as his John Denver by way of David Crosby look is here, somehow it downplays how gross LaBeouf’s actual father looks and indeed is.

We can all live through the childhood trauma of the Holes kid when Honey Boy hits theaters November 8.
