Hey, you know who knows how to do colorful space adventure with campy villainy and a blonde hunk of a hero? That Thor: Ragnarok guy! With that in mind, 20th Century Fox and Disney have reportedly brought Taika Waititi on to the creative team of their long-stagnating Flash Gordon movie.
In development for almost a decade now, the feature last showed some movement last Halloween, when Overlord director Julius Avery sold a pitch to write and direct a live-action reboot. According to Deadline, now the project has apparently shifted into an animated feature, Avery is gone, and while it’s rumored Waititi could write and direct, for now his role is simply to “crack” the concept. Perhaps he can figure out why Fu Manchu-sporting villain Ming the Merciless of Mongo feels kind of problematic now…
