The Banana Splits are murderous robots in this inexplicable, actual movie trailer

Old enough to have some faded nostalgia for the Banana Splits? Want to see them as evil, murderous robots? Well, you must be whoever at Warner Bros. approved this decidedly-adult horror-comedy, The Banana Splits Movie.

Seemingly inspired by the popular Five Nights at Freddy’s video game series, the film sees the Banana Splits gang—an anthropomorphic animal musical quartet—going ape-shit violent on an unsuspecting audience. Blame all the psychedelics Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper, and Snorky were doing back in the late ’60s. (That they’re robots instead of just some people in suits, as was the case in Sid and Marty Krofft’s original series, would seem to suggest this was originally pitched as a Rock-Afire Explosion movie that those fat rats at Chuck E. Cheese and Showbiz wouldn’t approve.)

The Banana Splits Movie hits home video later this summer before being tossed right where it belongs: in Syfy’s lineup.
