It’s now been 20 years since Tupac Shakur was killed, or faked his own death to work undercover rapping for the FBI. Whichever it is, now you can get a glimpse of the events that led up up to it with All Eyez on Me, the biopic that brings Tupac back like no disquieting hologram has before.
This full trailer for the film leaves no doubt that newcomer star Demetrius Shipp Jr. definitely looks the part of the rapper. But it also makes it hard to shake the feeling that this is the Ashton Kutcher Steve Jobs movie of Tupac biopics—superficially accurate but with little beneath its extremely familiar-looking skin. In other words, it might be worth skipping this one and waiting for Michael Fassbender’s Tupac. We’ll find out if that’s the case when the film hits theaters June 16.
