Vince Vaughn goes ‘Street Fighter II’ on a car in the ‘Brawl in Cell Block 99’ trailer

As he did with his directorial debut, the brutally violent Kurt Russell Western Bone Tomahawk, writer-director S. Craig Zahler has smeared a bit of Tarantino into his sophomore effort. Brawl in Cell Block 99 has got Pulp Fiction‘s smooth-headed boxer-turned-criminal, Django Unchained‘s rare scenery-chewing role for Don Johnson, a ’70s soul soundtrack, and in a the unlikely bit of reinventive casting, Vince Vaughn as a Southern hard-ass with literally remarkable muscles. It’s a premise and lineup seemingly tailor-made for a straight-to-video release (Dexter‘s Jennifer Carpenter filling the wife role doesn’t entirely help), but from the looks of things, Zahler has piled some meat on those on-demand bones—even if the supposedly muscular Vaughn hasn’t so much.

Brawl in Cell Block 99 is making it into theaters October 6.
