Looks like Alien: Covenant won’t be the only belated Ridley Scott sci-fi follow-up getting a nepotism-derived prelude. By way of Collider, Warner Bros. has just released a prequel short to accompany Blade Runner 2049. Directed by Scott’s son Luke, the five-and-a-half minute film is set in 2036, between the original Blade Runner and the upcoming sequel. It sees Jared Leto’s Niander Wallace meeting with a group (Doctor Strange‘s Benedict Wong among them) in order to make his case for them to drop a ban on replicants. His little lobbyist speech quickly escalates from a 2 to an 11. Have a look for yourself with the video above. Blade Runner 2049 will give us the rest of Leto’s atonal Christopher Walken impression when the film hits theaters October 6.
