Apple has finally caught up to Netflix in giving Martin Scorsese a superhero tentpole budget to shoot a Robert De Niro period piece.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple has agreed to cough up north of $215 million to produce Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. Paramount is distributing the film, which has De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio set to star. The story is set a century ago, when Oklahoma’s Osage tribe found oil on their reservation. The residents subsequently began getting murdered, bringing the then-nascent FBI in to investigate.
With funding in place (Netflix and MGM previously passed on the high price tag), producers are now moving forward on talking Marty out of CGI-ing De Niro into a young, indigenous man.
