Here’s something you genuinely love to see: Someone let 9½ Weeks, Fatal Attraction, and Indecent Proposal director Adrian Lyne make another corny erotic thriller. Lyne hasn’t made a movie since the 2002 likewise-erotic thriller Unfaithful, and someone was finally like, “Hey, want to do another one of those dumb horny things where something’s not right?” And he sure as hell did.
Deep Water sees Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas as a couple where the something that’s not right is that she brazenly flirts and fools around right in front of him. She claims he loves it; he seems to both love it and hate it; and ultimately there will of course be some stalking and homicide. Lyne can say the water runs deep, but if we’re being honest, it seems like a pretty shallow sexual soup bowl.
But if you’re looking for some ’90s-style thrilling erotica, you could probably do worse. It hits Hulu March 18.
