Though it’s long been thought Ben Affleck was thoroughly over this shit, it seems he’s been talked back into a rubber cowl.
Vanity Fair brings word that Affleck has agreed to one more Batman encore, reprising the role for The Flash. The film is to be loosely based on comics’ Flashpoint arc, which saw Flash enter a multiverse. Hence why Michael Keaton, who also thought he was done with this shit, will likewise be playing a Batman.
Of Batfleck’s unexpected return, director Andy Muschietti said, “He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before. It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie.”
Finally, Affleck’s Batman will complete his arc of how he only bonds with the rest of the Justice League by making a whole scene about his decades-dead mom.
