Is the third Cars the dark, sobering trilogy closer that will leave Lightning McQueen a beaten, broken, endorsement-covered shell of his former self, forever bitter about losing his promising career to an injury that gives him pain every waking moment of his pointless life? You wouldn’t think. Yet that’s pretty much the takeaway from this first teaser trailer for Cars 3, Disney•Pixar’s latest chapter of the series they keep insist on making. As for whether the rest of the film will maintain this tone, we’ll have to see if the full trailer is just two minutes of Mater silently taking in the unbearable loneliness of never feeling a hand on your wheel.
