‘Despicable Me 3’ Trailer Shows There’s Another One of These Things

If only all ceaseless franchises about burly, hairless criminals-turned-special-operatives were so endlessly watchable as Fast/Furious. Sadly, that’s not the case, so here we are with another G.D. Despicable Me movie to burn its yellow blobs into minivan backseat screens. For this third outing (assuming you don’t count the Minions spin-off), South Park‘s Trey Parker joins the cast but clearly didn’t contribute on the writing side. His character is a new villain that just tosses out a bunch of ’80s references—sometimes literally, as with a Rubik’s Cube that serves as a grenade and, apparently, a joke. That the trailer ends with the Minions’ gleeful mockery of a miserable, captive adult is all too apt a summary.
