Disney+ Magic Kingdom Universe to give those weird Disney people a little treat

Good news for those odd people with some kind of Disneyland membership that lets them go to Disneyland multiple times a year, as if that’s a reasonable thing to do: the Magic Kingdom is coming to you!

While COVID lockdown may have stopped you from further memorizing the beats of the Haunted Mansion, or interacting with a teenager sweating to death as they mime to you in a Pluto costume, Disney+ is preparing to really indulge whatever it is that’s going on in your head about this corporate amusement park.

The streamer is reportedly developing a Marvel-style franchise that will explore the Magic Kingdom’s attractions in ways the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, The Haunted Mansion, Tomorrowland, and the upcoming Jungle Cruise have already done—but now more like an embarrassing Kingdom Hearts reboot.

The first entry to this franchise is said to be Battlestar Galactica rebooter Ron Moore’s The Society of Explorers and Adventurers. Sources say the series will explore Disney ride characters “like sea boat captain from the Jungle Cruise or prospector from Big Thunder Mountain or the climbers of the Matterhorn, for example.” Though, while we’ve all been desperate to know the backstory to the prospector from Big Thunder Mountain, please be aware that “none of those characters or storylines are currently on the table at this stage,” so we may still be left with no cohesive origin for why the old man wants the gold in them thar hills.

It’s a small, culturally-strangled world (after all).
