We’ve done or are working on resurrecting the likes of Roseanne, Will & Grace, Full House, Alf, Mad About You, Murphy Brown, Punky Brewster, Frasier, The Facts of Life, Designing Women, Saved by the Bell, Head of the Class, and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. It was inevitable that this reckoning of ’80s/’90s sitcoms would eventually give us a reboot of Doogie Howser, MD. And, lo, so it has.
Deadline brings word that Disney+ has given a ten-episode order for Doogie Kameāloha, MD, the reboot that takes the “Hawaiian vacation” ’80s sitcom premise to another level. Created by Fresh Off the Boat and How I Met Your Mother writer Kourtney Kang, the series is based on her own experience being Irish-Hawaiian, and also based on Doogie Howser, MD.
The show will reportedly again see a Hawaiian teenager entering the medical field, but now also dealing with “her spit-fire Irish mother who’s also her supervisor at the hospital, and her Hawaiian ‘Local Boy’ father struggling to accept that his daughter is no longer his little girl.”
It’s said Doogie Kameāloha, MD is merely the working title, because it’s kind of a hassle to type the special character.
