Jungle Cruise has yet to hit theaters—if it’s even headed to theaters at this point—but already Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson are planning their next contentious romance.
Deadline reports that the two are attached to star in Ball and Chain, a superhero spec package written by The Big Sick‘s Emily V. Gordon. Blunt and Johnson would play a couple who are on the verge of divorce when they suddenly get super powers that only work when they’re together, forcing them to mend their relationship. It’s based on a four-issue comic from 1999, which sounds about right; this premise reeks of something that would have been made in the early-to-mid ’00s. Has no one told these people that superhero movies aren’t frivolous, one-off, family comedies anymore?
