After the success of Ex Machina, writer-director is back to disquieting sci-fi, once again with Oscar Isaac in tow, in Annihilation. Based on the bestseller of the same name, the film sees Natalie Portman as part of a four-woman team exploring a mysterious, long-abandoned landscape that’s made prior exploratory teams suffer various unusual, deadly fates. Along the lines of Tarkovsky classics like Stalker and Solaris, it would seem that this zone is sentient, incomprehensibly alien, and able to horrifically adapt to the individual. Gross!
Anyway, go see this February 23.
