Fred Savage, Lee Daniels rebooting The Wonder Years

Ugh, WAYNE…

Once a sitcom to let Boomers wistfully gaze back at their childhoods, The Wonder Years is now returning as a comedy series that’s also a bit more of a bleak reminder of the racist past America has yet to escape. How woefully apt.

ABC has reportedly ordered a pilot for reboot Wonder Years to be executive produced by the likes of Lee Daniels and original series star Fred Savage, who will also direct. While the show’s throwback period will remain the late ’60s, now the middle-class family at its center is going to be Black, the setting will be Montgomery, Alabama, and presumably no one will age being Daniel Stern.

While casting is not yet set, there’s a rumor going around that Kevin’s friend Paul will totally be played by Black Marilyn Manson.
