Invisible Man director taking on Gosling’s Wolfman

As disjointed as Universal’s once-imagined “Dark Universe” may now be, it seems there’s still a bit of connective tissue left in their Monster Mash.

According to Deadline, The Invisible Man director Leigh Whannell is set to return to the studio’s ongoing Halloween party and direct The Wolfman. As revealed last month, Ryan Gosling is in talks to star in the update, which it’s now said is inspired by the 1941 classic but will come from an original idea from Whannell. It was previously said that Orange Is the New Black writers Lauren Schuker Blum (of Invisible Man production company Blumhouse, naturally) and Rebecca Angelo already had a script, so it’s unclear if they’re starting over or adapting or what, but they’re still on as screenwriters. Let’s just hope that, through all this reworking, they don’t lose the core idea that the wolfman wears a zoot suit and is so horny his tongue rolls out onto the floor.
