Japanese Breakfast’s Michelle Zauner is tacking another hyphen onto her flourishing creative career. The singer-songwriter-essayist-author has reportedly made a deal with Orion Pictures to adapt her New Yorker piece turned memoir Crying in H Mart for a feature. The biopic will follow Zauner from growing up in Oregon among few fellow Asian-Americans, to spending months with her Grandma in Seoul, to finding success and her husband in the East Coast indie music scene—with a core centered on her relationship with her mother, who would be diagnosed with terminal cancer. Japanese Breakfast will also be providing the soundtrack for bawling in a Korean grocer.
