Unable to clear their heads of that “damaged” tattoo, Warner Bros. is giving Jared Leto’s Joker his own movie. According to Variety, Leto will star in and produce a standalone film that will continue the chrome-toothed, largely-panned villainy he first (and last) showed in Suicide Squad.
To be clear, this is a different Joker vehicle than the the Martin Scorsese-produced, Todd Phillips-directed effort that’s set to see Joaquin Phoenix in the lead. To be less than clear, this may or may not be an updated permutation of the Bonnie and Clyde-influenced Joker and Harley project announced last year, but it doesn’t seem it. After all, why compete against Marvel in quality of superhero universes when you can instead compete against YouTube in quantity of grating Joker impressions?
