Guantánamo Bay: not a very cool place! Mauritanian Mohamedou Ould Salahi found that out the worst way, spending 14 years locked up and tortured on suspicion—but never charges—of his having a role in the September 11 attacks.
He did get a book deal out of it, though, and The Mauritanian adapts his story.
Tahar Rahim plays Salahi, and Jodie Foster plays the attorney trying to bring him justice. In the process, she enters a prison where the incarcerated fling bodily fluids at visiting women (not again, Clarice!), and faces an increasingly conflicted prosecutor. That would be Benedict Cumberbatch, who himself deserves imprisonment for his latest uneven American accent.
The Mauritanian arrives February 19.
