Johnny Depp chews the cross-continental scenery in new ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ trailer

Well, if you thought the train-centric setting of Murder on the Orient Express might keep Johnny Depp resigned to his The Tourist level of acting apathy, you were mistaken. With this new trailer for the Agatha Christie adaptation, Depp makes clear that he will not stand to be upstaged by a detective with an even more ridiculous mustache/accent combo than his Mortdecai. Here, we see Depp not only joins Kenneth Branagh’s Hercule Poirot in being mustachioed but also puts on facial prosthetics and a gangster voice to rival his prior Black Mass efforts. Nice try, Branagh.

Still, while one frequent Tim Burton player’s participation feels far too obvious, another’s is welcome: Michelle Pfeiffer, continuing her renaissance from mother!, costars alongside the likes of Willem Dafoe, Penélope Cruz, Daisy Ridley, Judi Dench, Josh Gad, Leslie Odom Jr., and Olivia Colman. We’ll see whether this adaptation can top its predecessors when Dark Shadows: Snowpiercer hits theaters November 10.
