Kevin Smith has been hospitalized following, in his own words, “a massive heart attack.” The filmmaker-turned-podcaster was taping a pair of standup shows Sunday night when, after the first performance, he abruptly canceled the second and was rushed to a California medical center, where a doctor determined that Smith’s left anterior descending artery was completely blocked.
“If I hadn’t canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground,” Smith announced in a tweet early Monday morning. Though, in a sign things aren’t entirely improving, Smith still ended up performing his scene from against a flat, white surface.
After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack. The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (aka “the Widow-Maker”). If I hadn’t canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would’ve died tonight. But for now, I’m still above ground! pic.twitter.com/M5gSnW9E5h

Here’s hoping for a more cinematically framed recovery.
