Love it or leave it, Dave Franco will play Vanilla Ice

Like every kid with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze soundtrack, Dave Franco is going to spend weeks or more incessantly playing Vanilla Ice.

The younger Franco is reportedly set to star in a biopic about Rob Van Winkle, the rapper better known by the absurd moniker Vanilla Ice. Titled To the Extreme—like Ice’s major label debut album and idiotic line in “Ice Ice Baby”—it’s said the film will track Vanilla’s ascent from a high school dropout selling cars to the man who would coin the phrase, “Yo, VIP, let’s kick it!” Perhaps in a car he sold(?)!

Speaking to The Insider, Franco compared the tone to his 2017 film The Disaster Artist, saying, “With that movie, people expected us to make a broad comedy where we make fun of Tommy Wiseau, but the more real we played it, the funnier and heartfelt it was—that’s the tone we want for this one as well.”

It’s unclear how far To the Extreme will delve into whatever Vanilla Ice’s deal is now.
