Mel Gibson May Direct ‘Suicide Squad’ Sequel

The superhero film about likable sociopaths handed shots at redemption may be directed by Hollywood’s very own likable sociopath handed shots at redemption. According to Variety, Mel Gibson is among the names on Warner Bros.’ shortlist for directing their sequel to last year’s off-the-mark Suicide Squad. Gangster Squad director Ruben Fleischer, Safe House‘s Daniel Espinosa, and The Night Before‘s Jonathan Levine are also said to be in the running.

Should Gibson take the job, it would make it his first major studio directing job since 1995’s Braveheart. It would also make it really worrisome what Captain Boomerang is going to start spouting after a couple tall-boys.

We’ll nervously keep an eye on how this develops.
