David Fincher’s ‘Mindhunter’ trailer gets inside the brains of the worst people

Mindhunter is, unfortunately, not about the noble hero that will eventually track down and incarcerate Criss Angel, Mindfreak. But what it is doesn’t sound too bad either.

Executive produced by David Fincher, the period series follows two FBI agents (Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany) as they pioneer the study of serial killers, laying the groundwork for what would eventually lead to far too many seasons of Criminal Minds. Fincher also directed some episodes, and as you’ll see in this trailer, his Fincher-prints are all over this thing. It looks just as dismally dingy and sickly colored yet still sort of elegant as everything else in the Fincher oeuvre. This is clearly a part of his ever-growing cinematic universe in which the sun has been replaced with the fluorescent bulb from a blown-out gas station john.

The full first season of Mindhunter hits Netflix October 13.
