Phil Lord and Chris Miller may have been booted off the Millennium Falcon, but their sprawling movie universe magic seems to have come out in tact for their latest big-ticket franchise effort, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Produced by the pair, with Lord providing the script, the film continues their Lego Movie tradition of delivering a unique, herky-jerky animated world wonderfully bloated with iconic heroes. It’s centered on Miles Morales (Shameik Moore)—Marvel’s younger, newer Spider-Man—but it’s also set in an alternate world where the likes of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man (Jake Johnson) and Gwen Stacy’s Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) co-exist alongside him. It’s not so much the Joaquin Phoenix Joker to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man as it is the (likewise Lord and Miller-produced) Lego Batman Movie to Spider-Man: Homecoming, and it looks like quite a bit of fun. See for yourself with the trailer above. We’ll find out whether the slightly double-visioned backgrounds make us throw up when the film hits theaters this Christmas.
