Relive the painful awkwardness of middle school with Bo Burnham’s Eighth Grade trailer

With all the 20-somethings Hollywood uses to fill its fictional schools, Eighth Grade is a painful reminder of how actually awkward-looking—and awkward acting—real teenagers are. Starring 14-year-old Elsie Fisher, the film is the feature directing debut of comedian Bo Burnham, here reining in the songs and one-liners to paint a portrait of entering high school in today’s social media-heavy landscape. Unpopular teens will relate; we olds will quietly thank God our middle school idiocy wasn’t immortalized on YouTube.

Eighth Grade hits theaters July 13.
