Sphere, the only film daring enough to pack Queen Latifah and Huey Lewis into a single motion picture, is getting a remake.
Variety reports that Westworld writer and executive producer Denise Thé is jumping Crichtons, now planning a series based on Michael Crichton’s 1987 sci-fi novel, Sphere. HBO is developing the show with Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy’s Kilter Film and Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey’s Team Downey.
As seen in Barry Levinson’s 1998 bomb, Sphere sees a group of scientists investigating a ship from the future and the 1980s ray-tracing test orb hovering within. Things start getting weird!
We can only hope Thé learned from the critical and commercial failure of the original, and now the sphere will be hot.
