It’s less than two weeks until Spider-Man: No Way Home delivers us a certified wealth of Spider-Men, but lookie here: it’s ADDITIONAL SPIDER-MEN. Yes, Sony has preemptively one-upped the coming multiverse of Spider-Man guys with the OG, giving us a trailer for their Into the Spider-Verse sequel, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
As teased in the former’s post-credits sequence, now Oscar Isaac’s Spider-Man 2099 is in the mix—joining Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales, Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy, and Jake Johnson’s Peter Parker. Also, now there’s Issa Rae’s Spider-Woman, Jorma Taccone’s ’60s cartoon/meme, and 1978’s live-action Japanese Spider-Man. Hard to top Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir and John Mulaney’s Spider-Ham, but they’re doing a hell of a job trying. Likewise, while Jon Watts is doing some solid work in making the latest Spider-Man trilogy a hell of a thing, from this teaser, the Spider-Verse seems to remain the gold standard. Also, it seems the Spider-Verse is now a trilogy: Across the Spider-Verse has been labeled “Part One,” so it looks like we’re getting a follow-up. And who could complain? These are some of our best Spider-Men.
Sadly, we must wait until October 2022 to even see them do their Spider-Manning.
