The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power teaser tacks on some more Tolkien baubles

You’ve seen The Lord of the Rings trilogy. You’ve perhaps begrudgingly sat through The Hobbit trilogy. But did you know there’s somehow even more you don’t know about elves and shit fighting over rings? Have a look with the first tease for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Desperately scrubbed from J. R. R. Tolkien’s appendices to The Lord of the Rings, the Prime Video series will do what The Hobbit did to the nth degree: making The Lord of the Rings even cheaper-looking and more prolonged. Amazon has reportedly given the show a five-season commitment with a more than billion-dollar budget, but you’d hardly know it from this first look that only sporadically looks like much better of a fantasy epic than the last couple DragonHeart sequels.

While the preview teases that the series takes place “Before the King,” “Before the Fellowship,” and “Before the Ring,” it’s ultimately rings all the way down, so here’s some more about rings. No one is even looking to make “the next Game of Thrones” anymore, but here it belatedly is as more premium ring content.

It hits Prime Video September 2.
