Tiffany Haddish to entertain aliens in Thoroughbreds director’s sci-fi satire

Comic actress Tiffany Haddish’s genre crossover appeal is about to be put to the test: she’s going to be in a sci-fi movie and also a ’50s romance targeting aliens.

Haddish is reportedly set to star in Landscape with Invisible Hand, a long-developing adaptation of M.D. Anderson’s 2017 sci-fi satire of the same name. Cory Finley, who made his feature debut on the underappreciated Thoroughbreds, will make the film his writing-directing sophomore effort.

The story sees an alien species called the “vuvv” come to Earth offering their advanced technology and medicines. It should create a utopia, but instead it leaves the working class unemployed and unable to afford any of this cool stuff. There might just be some timely commentary hidden in here!

Anyway, these aliens love “classic” Earth culture, so a couple teenagers come up with a moneymaking scheme to exploit that: streaming their wholesome, ’50s-style romance and charging the vuvv by the minute. The plan runs afoul as the teens grow to despise each other. Bear in mind, Tiffany Haddish is not a teenager, so elements may be changing about all this.
