As if Bong Joon-ho’s The Host wasn’t enough of a Spielbergian fantasy-adventure, it seems the Snowpiercer director has gone all-the-way E.T. for his latest. Featuring the likes of Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Lily Collins, Steven Yeun, and Giancarlo Esposito, Okja sees Bong joining the ever-rising number of acclaimed filmmakers heading to streaming services—in this case, Netflix. The coming-of-age film focuses on a young girl trying to protect an enormous creature from the equally sizable multi-national corporation attempting to abduct the beast. The ever-growing “kid befriends an exceptional creature they must protect from mean adults” genre really needs to be named at this point, doesn’t it? Whatever we settle on, already this looks like a far better entry to that than Monster Trucks. Okja premieres exclusively on Netflix on June 28.
