Tom Hanks is the old-timey, news-readin’ Mandalorian in Paul Greengrass’s News of the World trailer

In Paul Greengrass’s latest, News of the World, Tom Hanks plays a man who travels town to town reading the news to small crowds. This trailer is quick to hang a flag on that, a young man essentially asking Hanks, “Sorry, that’s a job?” And Hanks is like, “Yes, apparently that was a job at one point, so let’s just move past that and onto the larger story.”

That larger story: Hanks finding a 10-year-old girl who had been taken in by the Kiowa people six years earlier and raised as one of their own. The child now orphaned and unable to speak English, Hanks is traveling hundreds of miles—and through what seems like an unusually high number of would-be abductors—to get her to her aunt and uncle. Also, Tom Hanks is a Captain, because apparently that’s just going to be his status in every Greengrass film from now on.

News of the World ostensibly hits theaters this Christmas.
