Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, and Patriots Day director Peter Berg is back with another bit of rah-rah Amerian heroism for his pithy muse, Mark Wahlberg. Berg’s Mile 22 casts Wahlberg as leader of one of so many clandestine special ops groups native to the action-thriller genre.
“According to the government, we do not exist; we’re ghosts,” Wahlberg explains of his team, because that’s what someone in this sort of thing says. Anyway, he, Ronda Rousey, and the rest of his squad are tasked with smuggling The Raid‘s Iko Uwais over a 22-mile journey. Predictably, their drive is filled with few Transformers 4 anecdotes but many military and martial arts set pieces.
Thought it would seem this film’s derailed trek would certainly head straight to video, Mile 22 will arrive in theaters August 3.
