Well, Amazon bought MGM

Our cynical journey back to the “Big Five” Hollywood studio system is just about there. After slurping up the Whole Foods pasta buffet, Amazon has made its latest acquisition that it will probably just deduct from its taxes somehow: Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios. The company has reportedly made an $8.45 billion deal to merge with MGM, bringing Amazon over 4,000 movies and 17,000 TV shows—along with the rights to James Bond, the next Paul Thomas Anderson film (which is evidently titled Soggy Bottom???), the Rocky franchise, and a bunch of other stuff. Amazon Prime will likely be the only way to stream Pink Panther movies, should one choose to watch those. The consolidation continues! Yet somehow we’re still paying for no fewer services.
