Well, here comes another Alien movie

Looks like Alien is continuing its devolution from perfect killing machine to corporate IP machine.

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that a new Alien movie is in the works, Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead (2013) director Fede Álvarez on board to write and direct.

It’s said this will be an original, standalone movie—so no need to recall whatever the hell went on with Michael Fassbender and friends over the last couple movies.

Álvarez apparently pitched his idea to Ridley Scott years ago, but that may have been back when Scott was still considering Neill Blomkamp’s Alien movie that is definitely not happening. It took until late last year for Scott to circle back around to Álvarez on the take, getting 20th Century actively in development on it.

What is that take? We don’t know. But like Álvarez’s aforementioned efforts, it will seemingly lean further into the lower-budget horror or the original.

The film is headed straight to Hulu, with 20th Century president Steve Asbell saying, “It’s not a film that has to be all things to all people with those gargantuan budgets. They get to be authentically what they are. And this is closer to its genre roots.

“It was just a really good story with a bunch of characters you haven’t seen before,” Asbell added. So if you see Paul Reiser in this, please bear in mind that he may be playing a different Paul Reiser character.
