Part of Apple’s first wave of would-be prestige series to get people signed up to their late-to-the-game streaming service, The Morning Show is 2010’s Morning Glory by way of Aaron Sorkin’s unending behind-the-scenes sanctimony.
Jennifer Aniston stars as a Today-style host whose Matt Lauer equivalent (Steve Carell) has, like Lauer, been accused of sexual misconduct and booted off the show. The loss of her co-host leaves her at the top of the a.m. mountain, but soon a hot, new, marginally younger reporter (Reese Witherspoon) starts coming after her crown. Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Néstor Carbonell co-star.
Anyone willing to shell out for Apple TV+ can watch The Morning Show this fall.
