Kevin Smith is giving Netflix a He-Manime

An early glimpse of He-Man’s skull castle that the guy with the actual skull head isn’t allowed into.

The powers of little furry briefs are set to face off against the evil forces of oversized jean shorts.

Yesterday at Power-Con, an event that apparently exists in service of “the He-Man and She-Ra toy & comic book experience,” Kevin Smith revealed why he was at the thing: to announce that he’ll be showrunner and executive producer on a new Netflix series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Revelation. (Rolls off the tongue as easily as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, huh?)

In a press release, Smith has described the series as an anime-inspired animated effort in which “we pick up right where the classic era left off to tell an epic tale of what may be the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor.” He also said he was “Eternia-ly grateful” for the opportunity, so clearly his writing process has already begun.

It’s said Revelation “will focus on the unresolved storylines of the classic ’80s era, picking up many of the characters’ journeys where they left off decades ago.” So it’s sure to be fulfilling for anyone who remembers any of those storylines at all, or ever considered them to be building a longer, serialized story.

Was it not just an episodic tale of hero Barbrarian Streisand Hair routinely defeating Tom of Finland’s Grim Reaper?
