The first trailer for Shazam! has arrived, and with it the first confirmation the DCEU is moving even further into the lighthearted than Wonder Woman‘s screwball bits would suggest. This thing is, seemingly, a proper family comedy, leaning hard into the Big-like transformation from teenager Billy Batson into a man in a flagrantly-lumpy, LED-lit muscle suit. (Like with Shazam’s deltoids, Warner Bros. could have at least spent a few bucks covering up Philadelphia’s mass transit signage to even pretend this was set in the world they created.) Zachary Levi plays the fake ID of a Superman that is Shazam, with Asher Angel playing the younger version. It‘s Jack Dylan Grazer co-stars as Billy’s foster brother and friend, with Mark Strong playing the ridiculously villainous Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. This probably-not-as-solid Spider-Man: Homecoming of the DC Extended Universe hits theaters April 5, 2019.
