Barry Jenkins to take on Alvin Ailey biopic

After breaking out with 2016’s Moonlight, Barry Jenkins is again set to explore the story of being black and queer. According to Deadline, Jenkins is attached to direct a Fox Searchlight biopic about Alvin Ailey, the dancer and choreographer who received the Kennedy Center Honors, the NAACP’s Spingarn Medal, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama.

Ailey passed away of AIDS in 1989 but, despite his campy and sexualized dance work, wasn’t exactly out the closet, still asking his doctor to declare him dying of terminal blood dyscrasia in his final days. So that sounds like another fun one, BJ.
